Wind turbine cleaning by drone, with nobody working at height

We clean and inspect complete wind turbines using drones operated from the ground. One day per machine instead of the four or five that rope access takes, and the whole crew stays on the ground.

The problem

Cleaning a wind turbine still means hanging someone off it

Rope access. A certified technician climbs to the nacelle, abseils down the blade or the tower and works the surface section by section. A full clean takes four to five days per machine.

The turbine is down for most of that week. That is why cleaning stops behaving like routine maintenance and starts behaving like a capital decision, and gets pushed to next year.

Services

The complete turbine, or only the part you need

Blades, hub, tower and nacelle in a single intervention, or each scope on its own. Visual inspection is built into the cleaning flight: every machine is handed over with before and after photographic evidence.

Tower

The complete shaft, with nobody working down the outside of the machine.

The result

What it looks like at the end of the day

Before Wind turbine tower and nacelle before cleaning, with years of accumulated soiling
After The same tower and nacelle after one day of drone cleaning
Tower and nacelle cleaning on the same turbine, before and after the intervention, with the same crop on both photographs. The blades were not part of this campaign. What is still visible is the most ingrained grime: getting one hundred per cent of it off a surface that has spent years outdoors is not possible, and we would rather show the real result than a retouched photograph.

Field proof

A first campaign, then a repeat order from the same client

Eolinet delivered and invoiced a full cleaning campaign at a Spanish wind farm for a major Iberian utility. After the operational validation, that same client placed an order for a second site in under three months.

Getting there meant clearing the utility contractor prequalification process first: health and safety, insurance, audits and individual documentation for every pilot. That process is what keeps most drone operators out of these sites, and it is behind us.

We do not publish the name of the client or of the wind farms where we have worked.

How it works

From first call to site in about three weeks

Service activation takes around three weeks from confirmed order, and what fills that time is the aviation permit process. We handle it.

Context

22.486 wind turbines installed in Spain

Spain closed 2024 with 22.486 wind turbines across 1.416 wind farms and 31.679 MW of installed capacity, according to the 2025 yearbook of the Spanish Wind Energy Association (AEE).

A significant share of that fleet has gone years without a proper clean. Not because nobody cares, but because with rope access the numbers do not work.
